Archived Reading List beginning 2023

In 2023 I decided to make a point of getting back to reading more. I started tracking my book reading list in 2023. This is the Archive Page.

Motivation This was chosen as part of a book club that was expected to be started in January 2022. I had a stroke January 14, 2022 and wasn't able to continue reading the book until much later.
Impressions Overall I liked the book. I found it to be interesting and motivating. Duckworth definitely gave me some things to think about. For example, I am still working on my 10 or less word top level goal.

Altohugh Duckworth certainly makes some reasonable disclaimers in the book and I feel I must accept that her area of study is what factors lead to high achievement and success, I feel the book definitely falls in a category of perpetuating the American work-a-holic, you are what you do for a living culture. Not everyone needs to have a calling or needs their job to be more than a way to pay the bills. In short the book is good for understanding more about how to cultivate interests into passions and how to strive for work that is your passion and is hard, but I am not sure this is realistics for everyone. I also think it is ok if your "achievements" are small and personal. "I am a good friend who is there for my friends."

Motivation My Mother-in-law gave me a few books last year when I was recovering from heart surgery to read. I didn't really get around to reading this one until the summer. I read a good chunk of it while we were visiting Grand Isle (a tradition on my Father-in-law's side)
Impressions I really enjoyed the book. It was really different than anything I have read. It was interesting to read a story from this time period.

It introduced my to topics I hadn't thought of and a whole life that was different from mine and my family's. It got me thinking about differences in culture even in our same geography.
